Freedom, Flow, and the Science of Peak Performance!

Hello Reader,

On this episode of the Liberated Equestrian, I'm excited to be joined by Callie King for a lively chat about freedom, flow, and the science of peak performance!

Yes, you will want to tune into this episode, even if you're not an equestrian, because the science is relevant to all areas of performance!

Many of you know Callie as the founder of HorseClass.com, which is where you'll find my curriculum, Finding Calm: Helping Riders Navigate through Fear and Anxiety, as a part of the incredible online education platform global resource for equestrians seeking thoughtful, effective training methods as well as expertise in riding, training, and equine care.

Callie has experienced everything from endurance riding in the Colorado mountains to gentling mustangs in California and trekking in Mexico, where she now resides and continues to develop educational programs for riders worldwide. Callie shared that the word for liberated, or free, in Spanish is "libre" and it has come to be the cue word she uses with her horses when she "turns them free" from their work together.

Throughout this episode, Callie and I explored how her approach to horsemanship has transformed through her experiences both in working with training horses as well as students. She has come to discover the science behind the "flow" necessary for peak performance for both the recreational rider and athlete, as well as the horse. Together, we explored what this looks like in learning, especially redefining calm as not relaxation but rather as an aspect of stress leading to confidence and skill.

Tune in to episode #004 of the Liberated Equestrian on your favorite listening app! You'll find the Pod on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, and with complete show notes at Stableminded.us.

May we stabilize and thrive together!

In this together,

Lisa Pulliam

Hello Reader, Does the thought of releasing restrictions bring you comfort or fear? On the one hand, restrictions can be protective and provide safety. But on the other hand, restrictions can be limiting and smothering. In this case, when I'm referring to releasing restrictions, I'm speaking of the tension we hold in our minds and bodies that hinders movement and optimal function. It's an idea that has been on my mind ever since interviewing Cathy Woods for this latest episode of the...

Hello Reader, Continuing the backstory that led to launching the Liberated Equestrian Podcast, in this episode, I’m digging a little bit more into my return to the horse world in the last decade and the lessons learned about listening to my gut. It’s been quite a journey in a relatively short period of time. Yes, it's been a bit of a roller-coaster becoming a second-season equestrian and experiencing everything from the joy of riding again to fulfilling the dream of horse ownership to...

Hello Reader, Is trauma just a buzzword? We label all sorts of things “trauma” or “traumatic.” But what is the definition of trauma? Does it even matter how we classify an incident or experience? On this episode of the Liberated Equestrian Podcast, I'm unpacking what defines trauma and why it is important to have a trauma-informed understanding of behavior. While this episode is tailored for equestrians, the information is applicable for all! We are all at risk of getting stuck in a trauma...
