How Destination Addiction Reroutes Purpose & Peace

Liberated Equestrian Podcast, Episode #007

Hello Reader,

Is destination addiction rerouting your life?

In fact, destination addiction may be the reason why you're feeling stuck and questioning your purpose.

It may be the reason why you lack peace and are wallowing in discontentment.

In this reflective episode of the Liberated Equestrian Podcast, I share a powerful moment in discovering the reality of destination addiction in my life as I witnessed Warwick Schiller's demo at the Horse World Expo in February 2025.

Warwick Schiller shared this concept of destination addiction, which I first read about in his Principles of Training book, while working with a rider and horse who demonstrated anxiety at being in the arena. The visual example of destination addiction of the horse was not lost on me -- it is an issue not only in horsemanship but also in humanship.

As a therapist, I've witnessed how destination addiction can truly sabotage a person's life. And yet I get it! To fixate on a goal, dream, or outcome is a natural response when the current situation is difficult. Introduce complex trauma to the scenario, and destination addiction becomes a way of survival in order to get through the present moment to that felt sense of safety, somewhere out there.

The problem, however, is when that destination addiction habit overrides the reality of the moment . . . the present moment in which you actually are safe . . . you end up missing the joys in the present.

Could this be you?

STABLEMINDED.US Maybe It Is Time to Quit A Story of Burnout to Breakthrough Hello Reader, Fourteen months. That's how long it has been since I shared a story about the Remarkable Kodiak Jack. While I could blame the silence on the busyness of life and unknowingly finding myself in burnout (more to come on that, so stay tuned), there were many other reasons his story, our story, went dark. In fact, one might say that as I navigated through the dark soul of the night to come out on the other...
