Hello Reader, I hope this lands in your inbox with a fresh hope as we enter into a new season. I can't believe three months have passed since I shared the announcement of my sabbatical. Ironically, I began that email with these words: My word, has it been a season. . . . and those words are still incredibly fitting. Literally, what has transpired in the last month -- and this week alone may be an entire update all it's own. But for now, I'm sticking with what I drafted last week . . . grateful to share with you how this intentional season set aside for healing and seeking God has been life changing, humbling, disruptive, challenging, relieving, uncomfortable, and so desperately needed. Healing through a True ResetI have experienced a true nervous system reset, which is what I hoping for when I planned the sabbatical. And I learned firsthand what trauma can do to the body, even while living in a “normal” but hidden survival state. As my cortisol levels came down -- and that was not a pretty process -- I also experienced significant healing from my riding accident last August as well as the grief/loss of losing Kodiak amongst so many other things. Even thought this dang hamstring injury may never completely resolve and keep me from experiencing life the way it once was, I can still enjoy being a horsewoman. With the closing of Concordia Stables, Phineas found a new home with me. I am learning how to be "just a border" and Phin is enjoying the pampered life of being a retired lesson horse -- and also keeping me on my toes as we struggle with some hoof issues -- no pun intended! Once my nervous system came bounding out of survival, I was able to spend time seeking God for clarity about my career and calling. Creativity Awakened LifeThrough His awakening of my creativity, which actually began to take shape back in February when I started drawing again through a class I took at a local art center. I've been able to lean into parts of myself that have been dormant and shut down for far too long. No only did my artistic side begin to flourish in this season, but the desire to write remerged! It's been amazing to experience my fingers dancing across the keyboard. The drafts are piling up, but I don't quite know when I'll be ready to hit publish. Instead, I'm feeling this big "WAIT. SHUSH. BE STILL." from the Lord, as I continue to hold onto the promises in Matthew 11:28-30 in the Message Translation, which has become the anthem of this season: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” God is showing me how to recover my life and inviting me to walk with Him in a more intimate and dependent way. I am both excited and a tad anxious -- it is another step of faith to let go of everything I have been working toward and continue to wait on His next step. A Season of Transition & PreparationThe only clarity I have is that I am still in a season of transition that feels essential to the preparation for what is next. And in this season of transition, it feels best to not return to my client-based work as therapist or coach. There are many reasons for this, which I'm sure I'll share in due time. But for the moment, my transitional work will included consultations, Highlands Ability Battery assessments, speaking engagements, and a few other things in the works. While there are a few dimes left in the business bank account (yep, faith step here), StableMinded.us will stay "live" as well as StableMinded On Demand, including the Evergreen Retreat & Bible Study. Speaking of which, if you were around last spring when I released that study, you might remember me saying that: Pruning is wounding, and rest needs to follow to make room for healing and flourishing. It's exciting to see the healing and the beginning of flourishing, and yet, like a wise gardener who knows when a seedling isn't yet ready to be put out in the elements, I sense that God has a bit more to accomplish in me preparing me for what is next. So in this step of faith, I continue to walk with God and learn the unforced rhythms of grace that He offers. Keeping company with God, Founder of StableMinded.us P.S. I would love to know what you've experience this season I've been way. Be sure to hit reply and let me know. Hello Reader, My word, has it been a season. If you've been listening to the StableMinded Podcast, you may have picked up on that reality. And yet, as I shared last month, my perspective of this particular season has been deeply impacted by what I encountered through studying the Scriptures and preparing to teach the Evergreen Retreat & Bible Study. Pruning is wounding, and rest needs to follow to make room for healing and flourishing. So it is not lost on me that, before I knew the farm...
Hello Reader, There’s a quiet belief many of us carry: “I’ll deal with it later.” Later, when life slows down. Later, when it hurts less. Later, when we have more capacity. But pain that gets postponed doesn’t disappear. It gets stored. Listen On iTunes | Spotify | YouTube In this episode of the StableMinded Podcast, I’m sharing how God has been teaching me about pruning, rest, and healing, while also leading other women through the brand new Evergreen Retreat & Bible Study curriculum.
