Forever Changed by Love & Loss

Hello Reader,

You probably already know what this is about, since I've been sharing with you over the last few weeks about the loss of my beloved horse, Kodiak Jack. And if you've been following along on socials, you know I've been sharing a bit here and there about the experience.

Today, I'm dropping a raw and real episode about how I've been changed by love and loss on both the StableMinded Podcast and the Liberated Equestrian Podcast.

Yes, it is the same episode, but it seems fitting to share on both feeds to tell this part of the story for those who have been along for the ride on the Liberated Equestrian Podcast and to bring new StableMinded Podcast listeners into this part of my life that has significantly impacted my perspective on faith, suffering, loss, grief, and as a result of my equestrian life.

Even in grief, we can uncover a part of ourselves that is ready for deeper healing, more robust growth, and the coming full circle in finding a clarified vision and purpose. So, as I remember The Remarkable Kodiak Jack, I invited you to join me in committing to a life where love and loss leave us forever changed for the better.---

Rallying for Research . . . and Awareness

This episode also serves as the battle cry for equestrians and non-equestrians alike to catch the vision of becoming StableMinded and living life with purpose, along with rallying for research and awareness of equine neurological disorders so that horses and their owners don't have to suffer from this devastating disease in the dark.

Journeying with a horse who is suffering from eNAD/EDM is often marked by a deep sense that there is something wrong, searching endlessly for answers, meanwhile evaluating and treating other issues. This is a journey that is emotionally and financially draining, impacting the relationship with the horse as well as overall life.

As a horsewoman and mental health professional, I know this experience is not limited to horses and owners. Anyone suffering from a long-term mental or physical health challenge for themselves or in caring for a loved one, experiences this difficult journey.

I get it. Beyond my horse life, I daily face the issues of Ehlers-Danlos Disorder (EDS) and ADHD, and bear up the weight of my loved ones sharing in these disorders, along with the challenges of POTS and BRCA-2, plus all the cancers and risks that come with that mutation.

But for this moment in time, when this loss of Kodiak is fresh, and I've come to see that plenty could have been done to minimize his decline and extend his life if we knew what we were dealing with earlier. So I'm hopping on this soapbox with the hope that other horses and owners won't have to suffer the same way, nor walk this difficult road alone.

God never meant for us to bear our burdens alone.

So, whether you are suffering grief or loss, mental health struggles, physical health challenges, or navigating a heartbreaking journey -- with a horse or another human -- remember, you are not alone.

Hit reply, and I will pray for you and ask God to bring a fuller portion of Himself into your life through the support of community and any professional care you need today.

Still becoming,
